Greetings Fellow Comic Fans!

In my Comic Box Recap article series, I want to talk about each of the comics that I read from my subscriptions that week. I don’t always read all the comics I order, because I’m only collecting some of them. Others are ones I may have started reading, but lost interest in but I still order them. You never know when you may want to go back and revisit a series at a later date.

Do not read any further if you are trying to avoid SPOILERS!
Marvel
Captain Marvel #7

I’m not digging the artist for these Captain Marvel War of the Realms tie-ins. It’s not that the art is bad, I just don’t care for it. Everyone has different tastes, so don’t get angry with me for disliking it.

As for the story, I wasn’t expecting the tie-ins to wrap up so quickly. As entertaining as it was to see Carol and Strange mind-swapped, I don’t like drawn out tie-ins. I think the two issues were plenty and they were fun to read. I like the background comedic relief from Black Widow, even though I don’t like that particular character. And as much as I love Doctor Strange, I also like when he is humbled in some way. He is very full of himself, and he needs an ego check on occasion. I was glad to see that his ego was well managed in this issue.

For all the different mistakes that Carol makes, she always finds a way to make up for them or redeem herself. She never seems to be recognized for her part in anything, except for when she goofs – then everyone sees it. This situation is likely not going to be any different. Strange will most likely get the credit for Enchantress’s capture, although Carol was in his body. Strange told Carol that she found an effective and quicker solution than he would have. Carol is to the mass media as Spider-Man is to Jameson. I can’t wait to see what’s said – or not said – about Carol’s accomplishment in this issue.

I also noticed that they changed Chewie’s name to Goose in the comics. I don’t remember if it was mentioned previously or not, but I caught it in this issue. I also saw the bloody tissue Carol left behind after she coughed and now my level of concern has just skyrocketed!

Dark Horse
Invisible Kingdom #4

Well, this went from 100 to a million real fast. There’s a lot to process in this issue. So fist thing, Grix and Vess escaped how I thought they would, via Grix’s small craft. They out-ran the Renunciation’s monastery and left Duni for Grix’s ship. Once Grix and Vess were back aboard the Sundog, Grix called a meeting and it was rudely disrupted by the Hammer of the Path. They look like enforcers for the Renunciation, which I find alarming that they feel they need those types of folks. Some fancy flying got them out of a sticky situation with a homing torpedo. That torpedo was launched by the Hammer of the Path which ended up hitting their ship and they blew up.

After the chaos, Grix and Eline left the common area to have a discussion, which turned into a romantic encounter. I was actually surprised by this. I never picked up that those two had previously been involved, but according to the conversation, they were indeed something to each other. Now I want to know what happened to them and why they decided to split. I assume it was probably because of Eline’s job with Lux, but I really want more background on these two.

Vess was able to get in touch with Krikko and got some information in an attempt to help Grix gain leverage and build a case against Lux and the Renunciation. I question Krikko’s loyalty, but I question everyone – even the most loyal. I really like Grix and her paranoia because I totally relate to that. Grix tries to get the attention of Eline’s cousin on Duni. Eline’s contact ends up being a dead end because of politics and we find our crew staring down the front of a giant menacing ship in the final panel.

The political intrigue intensifies. I think the giant menacing ship may be an ally and not an enemy. But we won’t know for sure until the next issue!

Conclusion

I had a bunch of books last week and all were excellent reads. This week, I only had two  and they were both entertaining and great reads. I like when my books are all good reads. I can’t wait to get back to normal Captain Marvel stories that aren’t tie-ins and I can’t wait to see what happens with the giant ship in Invisible Kingdom.
